World uses iris scans to issue World ID, targeting to easily distinguish between AI bots and real humans. Users are given Worldcoin in exchange for the scan, which could support future models like universal basic income. The chief executive officer of World, Alex Blania, and its co-founder, Sam Altman, recently publicized the launch of the company in the United States. The company has come up with a revolutionary tech project, the Orb, that scans your eyeball in exchange for cryptocurrency and a World ID. World ID is a program that permits users to verify their humanity online. In this world, mainly driven by AI bots, it is very difficult to tell if we are interacting with a real human or a bot. To deal with this issue, World came up with a program known as World ID, which will permit users to verify their humanity online. The enrollment is done after users stare into the Orb, which collects a scan of their irises. After the scan is completed, the users have to follow a few instructions on a smartphone application and get a unique biometric identifier, which will be stored in their device. Also, there are built-in privacy features that can also generate a numerical code instead of storing the images of the irises of the users. World Users Get Rewarded with Cryptocurrency In exchange for all these, users get a cryptocurrency known as Worldcoin. They can either spend this coin or send it to other World ID holders or trade for other currencies. The co-founder mentioned that this is a solution to the problem, which is trust in the age of Artificial Intelligence. Further, he added: “We had plans to make sure that humans stay unique and central in a world where the internet was flooded with a lot of AI-driven content.” The company believes that something like Worldcoin will be helpful to distribute the proceeds from powerful AI systems to humans, possibly in the form of a universal basic income. The World App was launched two years ago, and since then, around 26 million people have signed up for the app. Also, over 12 million have received Orb scans to verify themselves as humans.
