A Polymarket bettor issued a death threat to an Israeli journalist over reports of Iranian missiles
The prediction market platform Polymarket has stated that it has banned and reported a user who issued a death threat to an Israeli journalist, attempting to coerce the journalist into altering a news report about an Iranian missile strike, which involved a betting amount of $17 million.
The Times of Israel military reporter Emanuel Fabian wrote on Monday that he received a message demanding changes to his report regarding an Iranian missile landing in the outskirts of the Israeli city of Beit Shemesh on March 10. This prediction market allows users to bet on the date of an Iranian attack on Israel, with over $17 million already wagered on the March 10 option.
Fabian stated that he received a threatening message from someone identifying themselves as "Haim," demanding that he change the report or face serious consequences, providing specific details about his parents, family, and residence. Fabian has reported this threat to the police, who are currently investigating.
Polymarket issued a statement on the X platform condemning the harassment and threats against Emanuel Fabian, stating that it has banned the relevant accounts and referred the information to the authorities. The Israel Defense Forces subsequently confirmed that the missile that exploded in the outskirts of Beit Shemesh was not intercepted.
